Proving that they can still serve and give honor to Limay Senior High School at the midst of the pandemic, The Harbinger’s two student journalists were recognized by The Manila Times (TMT) and The Manila Times College (TMTC) for their published journalistic works during the 4th Campus Press Awards, Friday, through Facebook Live.

Rainiel Salandanan, STEM 12- A, and Mark Rainier Pador, STEM 11– A, attested that Limay SHS can bring out the best in their students as they smashed their way to 1st runner-up finish in the Best Editorial Story and Best Sports Story categories, respectively, both in Filipino medium, under the high school level of competition.

Believing that journalists are assets of the country, TMT and TMTC eye to acknowledge the journalistic works of students in the high school and college levels to inspire them in developing their interest in journalism.

The Campus Press Awards honored only 36 deserving entries from over 400 shortlisted submissions, with 29 participating schools from the college and high school levels combined.

“We need to invest more in journalism in making sure that the next generation is on this procession according to the standards that we need that keep our democracy alive,“ Dante Francis Ang 2nd, Times’ president and chief executive officer, said.

“I hope The Manila Times helps you in nurturing that passion, we have a campus press section in The Manila Times which as you know, can be a landing for your work, for you to get a byline in a national newspaper,” he added.

Furthermore, the said event imparted inspirations and tips from the messages of TV-5 reporter and TMTC alumni Faith Del Mundo as she served as the resource speaker, while former Secretary Ricardo Saludo, managing director for the Center for Strategy Enterprise and Intelligence and Times’ columnist, graced the event as keynote speaker.

“What’s really most important is that you get the facts straight and put it out there,” Ricardo Saludo said.

“And that hopefully will be what we would all do, including our young campus journalists, what we would all do in this mission of ours is to tell the truth to an Earth and tell the truth,” he added.

Prior to the awarding portion, Del Mundo rendered some cues about being a good media practitioner or a media professional.

“On every surface you are use on you must leave a mark,” Del Mundo said.

“Do something that is significant or world changing, you are special and only you can fulfill the purpose for which you were born,” she added.

Apart from the winners’ recognition during the said virtual awarding rites, their names were also included in a news story published at the January 30, 2021 issue of The Manila Times newspaper and TMT online portal.
