Not even the toughest crisis of our time can stop the spirit of “bayanihan” as Limay Senior High School (LSHS) launched Brigada Eskwela (BE) for School Year 2020-2021 to advocate a learning environment that is responsive to the health protocols of today, June 06.

Completely different from the traditional ceremonies and activities throughout the years, a virtual opening rite was the medium resorted to by Limay SHS Brigada organizing committee in order to communicate the messages of support of various stakeholders to the community.

In spite of the great workload being carried by the local government these times in the implementation of Covid-19 essential services, Mayor Nelson C. David, Limay municipal mayor, still pushed for supporting the public schools of the town in their observance of the new normal version of BE.

Ms. Elma P. Dizon, Department of Education-Limay Annex District Supervisor, also shared the backing of the municipal government and expressed the readiness of Limay public schools for BE 2020.

On the part of the parents, Mr. Jesse Cabulao, Limay SHS General Parent Teacher Association (GPTA) president, shared his nod in the conduct of BE 2020 in spite of the health crisis, saying “Sa ngalan po ng General Parent Teacher Association ng Limay Senior High School, kami po ay nakikiisa sa 2020 Brigada Eskwela.

This year’s BE observes the safety measures set by the government’s Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) that prohibits physical contacts and mass gatherings that are traditionally done in its previous undertakings where volunteers from various institutions work together in repairing, repainting, cleaning and beautifying the schools.

Instead of gathering people to do maintenance of the schools to physically prepare the learning environments for the school opening, BE in the new normal “prioritizes preparations and strengthening partnership engagement to ensure that quality basic education will continue despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.” This means that BE’s advocacy this edition is the promotion and protection of both learners and teachers from health threats in the learning environment once the government approves physical contact in education.

BE 2020 is not a week-long event unlike the previous stagings as it will last until August 29.
