As Bataan celebrated its 265th institution as a province last January 12, Hiezel P. delos Reyes, a Grade 11 Home Economics student from Limay Senior High School who was picked to represent the Municipality of Limay, also had a reason to celebrate in similar occasion as her version of salted egg dish was named 2nd best in the Kulinarya Bataan cooking competition.
Aiming to showcase the cooking skills of young Bataeños, Kulinarya Bataan was one of the virtual events organized by the Bataan Tourism Council, together with different other virtual contests, to make the 265th foundation day celebration an enjoyable one and to help the citizens of the province in recalling the great significance of the said occasion.
Delos Reyes' winning dish is called ‘Bataan Express In Creamy Salted Egg Sauce’ which highlights the salted egg used in the main dish. Salted egg is considered one of the most popular local products in Bataan.
Delos Reyes receives Php 8,000 cash prize while Mrs. Sharon M. Riego, her teacher-coach, has Php 3,000.
An elimination round between Limay National (Junior) High School and Limay Senior High School was held first, and eventually Delos Reyes, the contestant from the latter, was picked to represent the municipality.
After the district level selection, Delos Reyes proceeded to Bataan Tourism Center at Balanga City last January 4 to submit her entry and set up her display station featuring her salted egg dish.
The awarding was held via Behold Bataan's Facebook page last January 11.
The dedication and practice of Delos Reyes and Riego, alongside the support and trust from the school and Mrs. Grace David, have been instrumental on their 2nd place win in the said competition.
“Hindi man natin nakuha ang 1st Place, lagi ko namang isinasapuso na ‘yan ang ipinagkaloob ni God, kaya buong puso natin itong ipinagpapasalamat” said by Mrs. Riego about their victory.
